A multicultural country

Mauritania comes from the latin  Mauretania, meaning "west" and its people, the Berber, where referred by Romas as Maures. The country offers a contrast between the Bererber and the black african population.
About three-fifths of the Moorish population has Sudanic African origins and is collectively known as Haratin (“Black Moors”). The rest is maid of  Bīḍān ("White Moors”) from  Berber descent. Still there is another part of the population of black african origines that include the Fulani, Soninke, Wolof and other ethnic groups.

Profile

It borders Senegal, Mali, Argelia and Occidental Sahara, as well as the Atlantic Ocean at the West where its capital, Nouakchott is located.
